"He Never Met a Bottle (He didn't Like)"
                      (Play the Song)

THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG:
Just after Christmas of 2004, around midnite I was lying in bed and thought of my dad's sad story of drinking himself to death about the time I was falling in love the woman who would become my wife. It hit me that he never got to know her or see his grandkids. A melody for the first line of the chorus came along with the first words. I jotted down the idea and recorded the melodic idea. After that, the verses flowed quickly because it was pretty much biography. Tweaked the words and created a final melody in Feb 2005.

I brought her home to meet mom and dad in early May
I didn’t know that he’d be gone before our wedding day
He tried sometimes to battle but he finally lost the fight
Cause he never met a bottle he didn’t like

He never got to know the woman meant for me
He never got to hold his grandkids on his knee
He never got to help me teach them how to fish or ride a bike
Cause he never met a bottle he didn’t like

He died so young he prob’ly gave up thirty years of life
Left two kids at home with a scared and lonely wife
I didn’t know if I should feel angry or just sad
If it’s missing him or what he missed that hurts so very bad

            (CHORUS)

I can feel the pull deep inside of me
From every kind of bottle I pass by
But I keep that thirst from ever running free
So my son never says about my life

            (CHORUS)
